CHOCOLATE POUND CAKE RECIPE
2 sticks butter |
½ tsp baking powder |
½ cup shortening |
5 Tbs cocoa |
3 cups sugar |
½ tsp salt |
5 eggs |
1 cup milk |
3 cups flour |
2 tsp vanilla |
Cream butter & shortening. Add sugar gradually; then eggs, one at a time. Beat well. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt & cocoa. Add to butter mixture alternately w/ milk. Add flavoring. Bake 1½ hours at 300°. Mix some cocoa & flour together for flouring the pan so cake will be same color.
Chef Tip from Chef/Designer Katie Baker: I modernized this classic recipe by using coconut oil instead of shortening. I use a high quality cocoa (my favorite is Cacao Barry Extra Brute) and a splash of coffee to bring out the chocolatey goodness. I love to serve it warm with whipped cream and berries.
