When the Tailored chef pant was unveiled in Chefwear's Fall 2007 line, it garnered an instant fan club. Within one year of its release, the Tailored chef pant rose to the elite ranks of top five best selling pants and has remained there ever since. Despite their popularity, there is still a bit of mystery surrounding the Tailored chef pants. So we asked our designers to paint a clearer picture of its construction, fit, and styling. The Tailored chef pants are made with 6.0 oz 100% cotton twill fabric and feature a flat waistband and belt loops (like the Flat Front server pant) with a small elastic inset in the back. This is different than most chef pants on the market today, which are made with a full elastic waistband and drawstring (like our Ultimate chef pant). Chef pants are usually made with twill fabric that does not stretch. In order for a full elastic waistband to be able to do its job, there has to be extra fabric around the elastic to create that stretchy feature and to allow for the extra space a chef needs to move around. It also helps to accommodate many different body types because the waistband and the hip and thigh area in the chef pants can expand or contract as needed. What does all of this mean to the Tailored chef pant? Since it has a flat waistband, there is no extra fabric gathering around the waist, hip, or thighs. This makes for a clean, flat front look. It also means that there is no extra room to expand, which gives the Tailored chef pants a very slim fit. The small elastic inset in the back keeps the waistband from being too constrictive in the fast paced kitchen environment and provides 2-3 inches of stretch. |

Without a full elastic waistband, you need an easy way to get chef pants on and off. The Tailored chef pant utilizes a zipper fly and button closure, also very uncommon in the chef apparel industry. In addition to its functional properties, this feature also gives the pants a dressier look. To take that dressy look one step further, the Tailored chef pants are finished with a permanent crease down the front of both legs. This crease is sewn in and will remain wash-after-wash. Tailored chef pants are best when paired with a slim fitting coat, such as the Executive chef coat or the Regal chef coat, and the Endurance Closed Back clogs. The resulting chef uniform presents a streamlined silhouette with a sophisticated and professional look. |
